ABOUT IP ADDRESS

An IP address unequally identifies network or host on a network. System administrator
or Network designers assign IP address to network. Two basic components of IP address is
Network ID and Host ID.IP address has 32 bits.(4x8 bits)

Five types of IP address

CLASS A: 1 TO 126

(EG: 1.2.0.3   NETWORK ID =1 HOST ID = 2.0.3)

CLASS B: 128 TO 191

(EG: 130.150.10.5 NETWORK ID = 130.150 HOST ID = 10.5)

CLASS C: 192 TO 223

(EG: 192.168.10.10 NETWORK ID = 192.168.10 HOST ID = 10)

CLASS D: 224 TO 239

(USED FOR MULTICAST)

CLASS E: 240 T0 255

(RESERVED)

In CLASS A, B, C, D the Network ID must be same for different systems and the Host ID can be
changed according to the number of systems.

The Subnet Mask is Automatically generated

Example: If we are using CLASS D network and has four systems then IP address will be

System 1 = 192.168.10.10

System 2 = 192.168.10.11

System 3 = 192.168.10.12

System 4 = 192.168.10.13

Check connection from system 1 to system 2

Open command prompt (Start-run type cmd Enter)

Eg: Ping 192.168.10.11

Check the data received and send is not zero

Check connection from system 2 to system 1

Open command prompt (Start-run type cmd Enter)

Eg: Ping 192.168.10.10
